The day after I went to Papago I decided to go up South Mountain. I read online that I could drive up to a lookout called Dobbins Point so I thought this would be the perfect trip for a Saturday afternoon. We could take Adri to the top of the mountain without me having to carry her all the way up. This is probably the best view you can get of the valley without having to hike.
We got up the mountain probably just before four. Due to the fact that we were hungry and didn't plan ahead we left before sunset. Next trip up we'll have to plan to be there for sunrise or sunset so we can get a better view. Even so, we had a pretty good view of the valley. We could see all of Phoenix, Sky Harbor, the sky scrapers, The Superstition Mountains, Papago, etc.. They have a few trails up there but I didn't get to hike any of them. Adri was being grumpy since she fell asleep in the car and woke up just as we got there.
The valley. Sky Harbor is right in the middle and Papago are the small red buttes just to the right of the center.
Natalie and Adri at the lookout. Those small buildings to the left are the sky scrapers in downtown Phoenix.Grumpy Adri.
The radio/tv towers. I've heard you can drive up there too, not sure how close though. We didn't have enough time to try that afternoon.
That's the windy road we drove up.
