Florida Life

I haven't really blogged much lately, and I was told I need to bring the blog back. I have a lot to catch up on. I'm going to have quite a few blog posts following this one. This post covers all the stuff that wasn't good enough for its own post in the last 2+ years.

In October 2022 we went down to Miami for my mother in law's birthday. While we were down there we made our first of two stops to start getting my fruit trees. This was at GoingBananas in Homestead.

We took the kids to Butterfly World. For some reason Adri hates butterflies. There was quite a difference in the humidity from Orlando and South Florida that time of year. It was really comfortable in Orlando but once we hit the Belle Glade area the tropical humidity really kicked up.

You can see Adri's love for butterflies, or maybe me?

Zach likes the butterflies.

Right outside of Butterfly World someone had Sonic at their birthday party so the boys went over to say hello. Dean was really excited.

We stayed at a new Hampton Inn in Miramar close to where I used to live. When we got there I realized it's right where this shootout happened right in the middle of rush hour traffic a couple years ago.

On the way home we stopped by our old house to take a look at the yard. The mango trees are huge. Since we were in the area I stopped by Tropic Plants and picked up a few plants. This is one of the pitcher plants I bought.

Some of the plants I brought back with me. All of those bananas got too big for pots and are in the ground now. I'm going to have to dig them out when we move.

My Delrey bromeliad. I've been wanting one of these for a decade now.

On the way to Tio Jose's for Thanksgiving we had to drive by the old immigration building I worked in for a couple weeks back in 2008 while we were moving to the new office. They are finally working on tearing it down. It's been empty since late 2008.

Miami Beach Thanksgiving weekend.

Cocoa Beach

In early 2023 I decided the waves are too small in Florida for my fat ass on my funboard so I bought that 9'6" longboard and we spent the weekend at the Hilton surfing. I had to find a guy in the area to repair my old boards. He was laughing at the fact that I've had my boards longer than I've known my wife.

Monster Jam

In January 2023 we got Suegrita, Tom, and the kids Monster Jam tickets, including pit passes. We spent the afternoon meeting all the drivers. Ryan Anderson wasn't there but his brother Adam was there driving Grave Digger. I turned my hat into the Monster Jam signature hat. When I handed it to Adam he signed it right on the front, like a boss.

Of course when you're already in Miami in January you have to go to the beach!

Blue Spring

In early 2023 we had a good freeze so we took the kids to Blue Springs to see the manatees. I believe it got into the upper 20's that morning. Afterwards we took the kids to Universal, since we had season passes (a whole other post coming up). We stayed until we got soaked on Ripsaw Falls. At least by that point in the early afternoon it was near 50 degrees.

In September 2023 I booked the hotel for a night where Natalie and I got married. We took the kids to her uncle's house and I didn't tell her what hotel I got. We had almost a day away from the kids and actually got to go on the beach. Everything was so rushed at the wedding we never made it outside.

This is when we arrived to our room. We sat on the balcony watching the weather change.

This was probably not even an hour later.

The next morning this is what we woke up to.

Last February these kids at school were bullying Zach. I told Zach you don't ever start a fight but sure as hell can finish one. The school has not been dealing with the bullies so I told him to deck the kid the next time it happens. These kids are little dweebs that are trying to punk him because he won't stand up for himself. Well one day we got a call from the principal that made me proud. This kid pushed and hit Zach more than once so Zach threw him into a fence. When I picked him up from school I took him out for ice cream.

On 6/25/2024 they launched a Falcon Heavy from Cape Canaveral. A Falcon Heavy is 3 Falcon 9's strapped together. I was able to get off work early and we went to Playa Linda to watch it. When we watched Artemis we were 9 miles away in Titusville. For the Falcon Heavy we were able to get just over 3 miles away.

Normally Space-X does not have delays but this happened to be one of those rare exceptions. Just when we thought they were going to miss the window and scrub they decided to go for it. It was really cool. Because of how close we were the intensity was similar to Artemis. Not only that but with the Falcon Heavy they bring back two of the boosters and land them. About 7.5 minutes after launch we could see not one, but two boosters returning a few seconds apart. They both landed a little over 5 seconds apart and created a triple sonic boom. We heard the sonic booms about 20 seconds after they landed.

In January 2024 my sister in law came out for 5 months to stay with us. We took her all around Central Florida. This was at Yahala Bakery.

Chilling at the pool one day and I see this.

We took Kim to Kelly Park

In March we took all went to Tree Trek Orlando. I had to use my ticket to follow Dean on the little kid's course, which was hard because the cables were so low.

When we got our Universal passes we only got the two park pass and didn't get the Volcano Bay passes. It was a big mistake. We finally went when Kim was here. I have to say that is the best waterpark I have been to. It was even better than Schlitterbahn. The drinks there were amazing too. I had a couple too many double rum punches. They also make a really good beer that I haven't seen at the other parks. It was a fun time. The only thing we didn't have time for was the trapdoor slide.

In April 2024 we saw Insomnium

July 4th at Waterfront. The fireworks show was not all that great. We got rained on and had to wait it out for two hours. The rain finally stopped just in time for fireworks. It was hot, wet, and miserable. The only cool thing was the band doing 80's covers.
