One Less Room With Carpet

I absolutely hate carpet and the disgusting smell that comes from it. Adri's room is the only one upstairs that still had carpet. It's not as bad as the carpet in  the living room but I figured we should just finish up the upstairs first and do the same tile we did in the master bedroom. So back in March or April I bought tile for Adri's room and it's been sitting in my garage.

It's been a weird year with all the tyrannical quarantines and stuff so I haven't seen my family in California as much as we normally do. The plan was to tile Adri's room this Thanksgiving but then my dad called me up last week and said he was coming out this weekend to take care of it. Not only was I excited to get Adri's room done, but also to see my dad and have some libation time.

I told my dad I would have all the carpet out, floor cleaned, and tile upstairs when he got here so we could spend less time working and more time libating. I got most of what I wanted done but wasn't able to get all the tile upstairs. I went to pick up the first box in the garage and a scorpion came out of it. That's when I decided I needed to open each box and take the tiles up unpacked. It's probably a good thing I did that too because 6 planks are way too heavy for a cripple with a broken back. Even with 3 at a time (half the box) it was a workout. I didn't want loose planks all over the place upstairs so I brought up enough to get started and then instead of standing around watching my dad I carried up the rest while he worked. I forgot how much work it is tiling a room. Even with everything prepped it took us an entire day to tile her room.

The end result was even better than I was expecting and this is considering I already did the same tile in my room. Adri's bed was in the middle of the room so it split her play area in halves. She decided to move the bed against the wall and she now has a big open space. The room looks amazing now and she actually has enough space for a full air matress when friends come over. On top of doing Adri's room my dad was able to get my transition strip put in where the master bedroom meets the loft. I never did take care of it after we tiled my room because I wanted my dad to help me make it look professional. We found a good match, which cost an arm and a leg for a strip that size, but it looks great. What a difference a small strip of wood can make. We also found time to finish up the back patio. I think the homeowner was working on it when his wife died so he didn't finish the cuts near the bar and the bbq. My dad already had the saw out so we spent an couple hours completing that project.

This year has really got to me. The quarantine, not being able to see people, overreach of government, etc. It was good to have a break from the normal BS routine and have my dad out for a weekend. I always have a good time just sitting around talking to my dad. We were all getting some good laughs at Dean this weekend too. Dean's new thing is to yell "China virus". The night my dad called to tell me he was coming out here I was in my room and I just heard Dean scream from the loft, then his footsteps as he ran towards my room yelling "China Virus". This kid knows how to make us laugh and he was doing it all weekend.

This was Friday evening having dinner while my dad was on his way out here. Dean didn't have his nap. I tried to take Bear from him while he was eating so Bear wouldn't smell like cheese. I put Bear not even a foot away and had him watching Dean eat. That wasn't good enough for Dean and he had a meltdown. After getting Bear back he started to fall asleep eating his pizza. Now I've got a video of both of my boys sleep eating.

Zach really wanted to help out so we let him do the vacuuming.

I tried to buy Natalie one of these "Champons" a few months ago but they ran out and cancelled my order. Her friend ended up sending her some as a surprise. She finally got to use it the first time doing shots with my dad.

Dean is very shy. Every morning he would be shy with Grandpa but then a couple hours later he would go sit on his lap and play. Here is Dean at breakfast. He's very focused on his food trying to ignore Grandpa sitting right next to him.

Look at how focused he is.

And two hours later...

China Virus!!!!

Dean always smiles when he sees Bear on my phone camera. He makes Bear pose for pictures and has him bang his head. Dean has associated head banging with horns so when Bear bangs his head Dean says horns!  🤘🤘
