We got there Friday afternoon, the day after Thanksgiving. A lot of our activities are classified but some of them I can talk about. Friday night we went to an Italian restaurant and we had this waitress that liked to talk. So much that she actually talked to us for a good 30 minutes about a fort that her family built next to a creek that crosses from the Atlantic to the Gulf Of Mexico. Our plan was to rent a boat the next day and find a private sandbar to hang out on so she was telling us we should stop by at this fort. So we marked it on our gps and had planned to stop by the next day.
Well Saturday came and we went to get the boat. Once we got there we got delivered the bad news. Small boat advisory, no boats going out. So we went back to the hotel, sat around in jacuzzi, walked the beach and the hardwood forest, and then spent the rest of the day relaxing in the room. For lunch we stopped by a place called Ballyhoos. It's a popular local restaurant. It was alright, but not great.
Saturday night we decided to try Rib Daddy's. This place is epic. I had the best rib eye steak I have ever had there. It was so good that I even decided to try dessert. This is something I never do due to the fact that most restaurant's desserts aren't very impressive so I'd rather make my own. But being how the steak was so awesome I decided to give it a try. So what to order? Well I decided to go with the mango pie. I was a little worried that it might not be good but it was amazing. I couldn't believe how good the pie was. It was actually so good that I had to take another piece to go. Yeah, this restaurant was awesome. The food was great and the service was too. The owner even came over to talk to us and ask us how we liked our dinner and dessert. I wish we had a restaurant like this close by. I will be going back next time I am in Key Largo.
The view from our room. On the other side of our room was a bamboo forest and in the parking lot was a gumbo limbo forest.
At the beach. This is below our room but you can't see the beach from our room because it's hidden by the gumbo limbo canopy.
Walking through the gumbo limbo forest.
This is in the parking lot. There are a lot of gumbo limbo trees at this resort. It's a very common tree, I have one in my front yard. But the thing I found interesting here is that these gumbo limbos grow tall and thin unlike any other gumbo limbos I have seen.
The most epic mango pie ever.
