First Month In Clermont

We've been in Clermont just over a month now. Although we hate this house we are renting, we love it here. Clermont is so hilly in parts it doesn't even look like Florida. There are lakes all over the place and we are just a mile from a preserve with a boat launch into Crooked River. During lunch breaks I have been taking bike rides to check out the area. It's a little sweaty but it's still a lot more than I could do in Arizona in mid summer. It's usually around 85-90 during my lunch break here, not over 100. We are in the hills so we get a constant breeze here which makes the summers a whole lot more comfortable than Miami even though the actual temperature is higher. Half the time a storm comes through in the afternoon and it's only in the low 80's and breezy at sunset. In Phoenix it would still be 105.

We finally got our last shipping container last week but this joke of a company (PackRat), still has not picked up the empty container. Once we get settled in we'll be ready to buy a house at this rate.

I'll be posting a few more post of our weekend trips after this post, but below are some of the things we have done in Clermont.

This is behind our house. Every night the sunset is worth getting off our butts to watch.

Zach is learning how to mow the lawn. Right now he enjoys it and asks me if he can do it then follows right behind me when I do the parts he can't do, waiting for me to give the mower back to him.

A thunderstorm behind the house. The kids thought we got good storms in Arizona. They had no clue how crazy the thunderstorms get out here.

The kids playing in the rain.

Adri decided to hang a basket by her swing to hold her food and drinks.

Just another day in Florida.

After work Zach and I went for a bike ride to check out some of the neighborhoods.

A couple weeks ago we went to the Clermont Citrus Tower. It's a 226 foot high tower that was created for tourist to see the citrus orchards. It was nice and sunny when we got there and within 20 minutes the thunderstorm had moved in and it was raining sideways at the top of the tower. Twenty minutes later it was clear and sunny again.

Five minute video of the rain from 226 feet up.

Lake Minneola.

Lake Minneola on the right and Lake Minnehaha on the left.

Orlando is 22 miles away. You can see the buildings in downtown from here.

This is one of the kids first experiences with a storm like this. This was coming out of Walmart one night and the lightning was pretty intense to the south.

We have a BWW nearby. In Anthem we had to drive all the way to Glendale for BWW. Here it's not even two miles away.

Another sunset from our backyard.

This was my second lunch time bike ride. I drove down to Lakeshore and halfway around the lake. The homes out there are huge and they all have private docks on the lake.

That same night the kids wanted to go for a ride. Lakeshore doesn't have a sidewalk so we just went down Hammock Ridge to the bridge that crosses between Lake Minnehaha and Lake Susan.

The next day I took my bike during lunch and went down to the Crooked River Preserve. It was afternoon but actually not too bad outside because of all the shade.

This is what most of the trail is like.

The next day the kids were out in the backyard when I was working getting ready to get in their little kiddy pool. I heard a couple helicopters overhead so I went outside and saw that they were police helicopters. I had no idea what was going on so I yelled for them to get inside. A couple hours later I rode with Zach to the preserve and we saw what was going on. Some moron was probably going 60-70 in a 35 and there was a stalled truck in the right lane with warning cones out. The truck is visible for probably a good quarter mile but this guy was going so fast he failed to get around it and the passenger's side went under and split the truck in two. The driver died on scene and the police were there most of the day. I have no sympathy for people that drive like that in residential areas and put everyone else's lives at risk.

Zach Zach at the Crooked River Preserve.

We tried to take a family walk at the preserve last Sunday after dinner but we got rained out literally as we pulled into the parking lot. Maybe tonight we'll have better luck.
