A couple weeks ago we went to California for Zach's birthday weekend. After this latest trip I have to say, I'm definitely not in a hurry to go back any time soon.
We did family pictures that weekend and someone in the family had the bright idea to get crepes on the way home. California is currently not allowing dine-in, unless you're their asshole hypocrite governor, and they are complete maskholes in that state. We show up at this place for crepes and they tells us we have to put on a mask. I didn't put on a mask. So then the girl at the counter gets all crazy and says it again. "You have to have a mask on to be in here". I said screw it and walked out. For some reason Natalie thought she needed to call me to see if I wanted her to get me a crepe. F*** no, I'm not giving them my money. In these times people should be taking any business they can but instead they're happy to take government subsidies and lose business over politics. I went outside and gave them a 1 star rating on Facebook, Yelp, Google, etc. They want to play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
I don't understand the mentality over there. The same people who say they don't mind masks then say they can't wait for this stupidity to be over and everything to be open and normal. It's never going to be over until people stand up and say enough of the bullshit. I was told it's just something I have to accept while I'm out there. Screw that, I don't have to accept anything and I don't have to go out there. That is the difference between me and their residents that act like boiled frogs. If someone wants to tell me to wear a mask I don't accept anything, I walk away. This is America, kinda, sometimes, in some places, I think. People say it's just a mask and then they cry when they can't go to church, their kids can't go to school, events are closed, restaurants are take-out only, etc. They bring it on themselves. Grow a pair and take off the face diaper.
There's no shortage of stupid arguments either. I say the mask thing is ridiculous and someone comes back with "Tell that to blank" (someone we know who died of the Rona). Ok blank lives in California where they have all these restrictions, blank wore a mask, and blank still got, and died from, the Rona. That's a good pro mask argument how? The mask obviously protected blank from the virus as well as it would from a gunshot. But people think they're so witty with these comments.
My favorite burger joint out there had a recall Newsom sticker on their window and a note bitching about dine-in being closed telling people to write their governor. I have no regrets spending my money there. These people deserve my support, the rest can go out of business for all I care. My absolute favorite Mexican restaurant out there was sneaking people in for dine in. I already give them 5 stars, can I give them six now?
I warned people about this a year ago. From day one I said this is complete bullshit and we opened Pandora's box. You give the government an inch, they want a mile. You can't give up your rights and then get them back. You'll just see more and more rights taken away, including your right to have a nice fresh breath of air when you leave your house. This country wasn't founded by weak men who put on masks and obeyed orders. It was founded by people who said enough of the bullshit and threw tea in the harbor and started a war with red coats.
California is closed and people are required to wear masks. Restaurants are closed, schools are closed, businesses are going under. Florida is open and their governor has said no masks and no governments within the state can force it on people. Kids can actually attend school and learn something. Look at the maps below and try to convince me that masks and quarantines work.
Total cases since the start of this mess.
Anyways, other than the political BS of the weekend we did actually have some fun. We went to what used to be my Grandpa's orange, grapefruit, and avocado orchard in Corona and did some hiking. It was weird seeing so many people up there. We used to drive through orange groves for miles to get there and kicked anyone that came up there out. Now there are people all over the place, hiking, jogging, walking, etc, even on his private property.
The weekend before our trip to CA at Zach's birthday party in Arizona. He really wanted a tiger cake.
Behind my dad's house. Dean was really excited to see the "big train".
Throwing rocks off the trestles. It's about 100 feet down to the Santa Ana River.
Dean right below the reservoir at my Grandpa's property (currently in a trust with people in the family).
This is the top of the reservoir.
Natalie and Dean on the road coming out of the old orange groves.
We used to be the only ones hiking the canyon, catching newts. It was a rougher hike in the day since there wasn't really a trail. We would always come home with poison oak. Now the trail is pretty well worn and it's a pretty easy hike.
What's left of the dam we built back in the 90's.
The avocado graveyard.
Avocados sprouting up.
On of the old bridges to cross the creek. The wood is all gone but it's still sturdy and we were able to cross.
The avocado hill. My grandpa was going to build a home on the top but got scared after a big fire back in the 70s.
That trail used to be a road. Got my truck stuck once in 2000 crossing and had to have my grandpa pull me out.
I don't remember this big drop being here. However, there also used to be a line of trees around the creek. Zach and I were throwing big rocks in the stagnant water below. The smell after a couple rocks stirred it up was absolutely horrible.
Dean fell asleep at my sister's house like this.
This is the top of the reservoir.
We used to camp up on the hill on the right. Awesome view of Corona, Rancho Cucamonga, and all the way to Mt. Baldy.
