Scorpion Wars

So the night we moved in we found a dead scorpion on the front porch. I sprayed the yard the next day and thought that would be the last of them. I was wrong.

About a week ago I went out to the front porch before locking up for the night and I found a scorpion right there on the wall. I went inside to get my black light and some shoes and the scorpion was gone. I moved a flower pot and there he was. So I kicked him with my boots. He did a bonsai charge right at me. I kicked him again. He ran in a different direction. I think I kicked him four times with the toe of my boot and it wasn't killing him. Finally I stomped on him. He was still alive and I thought he was going to charge again but after a couple seconds he was done. They definitely are not as easy to kill as a spider.

So now I was on a mission to kill as many of these things as I could find. I'm not a mean person, really I'm not. If they were out in the desert I would leave them alone. But I don't want these things getting in the house and stinging the kids. So I went to the garage and got my camping shovel. I found 4 more around the house that night. I killed 3 of them for a total of 4 that night. I would hit them and they would get in between the gravel and get away requiring multiple hits for the kill. Even with the point of the shovel they weren't always dying on the first hit. The one that got away managed to get inside the gap between the metal strip 8 inches from the bottom of the house.

So the next day I sprayed down the yard with a higher concentrated mix of Bifen IT. I found what I think were their dens and I hit them hard. That night I went outside and only found one scorpion and he was curled up and dying. I figured the war was over. Wrong.

The next night I found two of them about a foot apart by my ac unit. Since they were so close I was only able to get one of them. The other got spooked and made it under the metal sheet along the side of the house. So far I have done two more scorpion checks and haven't found anything. I have noticed that they are all on one side of the house though. They are all on the side where the ac unit is, both front and back yard and the nearby patio. If I find more I'm going to make a five gallon bucket of Bifen IT and pour it on that side of the house.
